10,000 PDP members defect to APC The defectors were led by a former National chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Mr Felix Akhabue.
10,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP members moved over to the ruling party on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at a mega rally which held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
According to Vanguard, they were led by a former National chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Mr Felix Akhabue.
Akhabue said that he and his followers made the move to bring development to Esanland.
The former PDP chieftain also said that the developmental progress made by the Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki won their heart.
Oshiomhole mocks PDP
Speaking at the rally, the former Edo Governor, Adams Oshiomhole called on the electorate not to allow PDP back to power in 2019.
He said APC will sweep away PDP’s mis-rule with its brooms.
Oshiomhole also said "We
are here to reinforce the power of the broom so that it can continue to
sweep and sweep and the dirts across the country particularly in our
state in those bad days of PDP misrule. The broom is just getting better
and stronger.
“Ten years ago,
around this time, we made a promise that the beginning of our struggle
require that we eradicate godfatherism in our polity. And we say we have
to dismantle the PDP rigging machine.
¨On
this ground in this stadium, we launched one man one vote. On December
16, 2007, in the name of local government, PDP roll out the armed
forces, they roll out the police, to ruthlessly rig local government
election. We fought them but with the power of the armed forces, they
stole the election in the 18 Local Government Areas.
And I said, in this state, in the name
of God and our ancestors, I said we will work to liquidate and banish
the system that oppressed our people. For me it is a thing of joy that
that machine that deployed those forces on December 16, 2007, today with
their leaders alive and all of us alive, that party called PDP is
dead.”
The defection is coming ahead of the Edo state Local government Council election slated to hold on Saturday, March 3, 2018.
