APC Convention violence: Emerhor barred from Aso Rock

Security details at the Aso Rock Villa on Monday barred the leader of Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun Otega Emerhor, from entry to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Emerhor, had been accused in some quarters of spearheading the violence that erupted among Delta State delegates at the just concluded APC national convention in Abuja while Buhari read his speech.
He was in the delegation of the Urhobo Traditional Rulers, Leadership of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), and Urhobo members in the APC, on a courtesy visit to the President, but was stopped by the guards at the Pilot Gate Villa, obviously following “orders from above”.
This was despite the findings that Emerhor reportedly conceived the courtesy visit and secured a date for it from the presidency.
The politician was linked to the free-for-all between factions of Delta APC at the convention ground, Eagle Square. Chairs, tables, bottles and other objects were wantonly used by both factions in the melee.
Trouble was said to have started when when loyalists of Emerhor, a former Delta APC governorship aspirant, and Chief Victor Ochei, a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, attempted to dislodge supporters of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who were already seated at the pavilion reserved for the state’s convention delegates.
The incident occurred as President Buhari was addressing the delegates, and security agents including soldiers, policemen and members of the civil defence corps had to intervene to bring the fighting to an end.
