The Aragbiji of Iragbiji in the State of Osun, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundin IV has lauded the wife of the Governor of the State, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola for her rigorous campaign against open defecation in Osun.

The monarch gave this commendation Thursday  while delivering an address as the guest speaker during a maiden conference of the Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Science of the University of Osun held at the auditorium of the institution.

Aragbiji who recommended that campaign against open defecation should be stepped up with involvement of traditional rulers, said traditional knowledge and practices provided an important basis for facing even greater challenges of climate change.

"The efforts of the First Lady, State of Osun, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola, are highly commended for her rigorous campaign against open defecation in the State of Osun", Aragbiji said.

In his further address, the guest lecturer called for symbiotic relationship between scientific knowledge and traditional knowledge, adding that this "is desirable in developing countries where technology for prediction and modeling is least developed".

Similarly, Aragbiji recommended a review of Environmental Impact Assessment Act so as to allow involvement of traditional institutions in environmental policy formulation regarding especially projects that domiciled in their various jurisdictions.

Among the participants at the conference were the host and Provost of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Professor S.R. Akinola, the former acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor O.J. Alamu, and the Chief Whip of the State of Osun House of Assembly, Hon. Tunde Olatunji.
