It will be recalled that Governor Oyetola paid 50% (#477million) of the total budgeted equity grants for 2019 meant for insurance premium for the poorest of the poor (vulnerable) in the State to the Osun Health Insurance Agency last year. This is to enable the poorest of the poor to access quality healthcare services, free of charge through the operations of Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS).
The Governor`s commendation came from Mr. Abdurahman Adetunji who while speaking on behalf of the family said, there is no way the family could have been able to bear the medical bills of Ramata`s treatment at the Lautech Teaching Hospital, because of poor family background, if not for OHIS timely intervention. Explaining how the incidence occurred, Mr Adetunji said Ramata was asleep in the house during the inferno, although she had struggled to escape, she later remembered that her #1000 note was in the house and returned to salvage it from the fire. In her efforts to recover the money she sustained severe burns in both hands beyond recognition (3rd Degree Burns in medical parlance).
Ramata Adetunji, a Vulnerable resident of Osun and beneficiary of OHIS was admitted into the female ward of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LTH) Osogbo and has been receiving quality care on daily basis. In addition she enjoys 3 square meal daily. Ramata`s admission was facilitated by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, (HCH) Dr Rafiu Isamotu and Executive Secretary, OHIS, Dr. Niyi Oginni, when they were informed of the lady`s condition. She could speak well now, unlike when she was first admitted.
A Nursing sister, Mrs Bolanle Ayeni, who takes care of Ramata also testified that if not for OHIS intervention, the poor lady may not have survived. She applauded Governor Oyetola for his love for the poor and making people`s health a foremost priority of his government. Mrs Ayeni therefore enjoined the general public to embrace the OHIS Programme because it is the only way to have access to quality health care services without financial hardship/stress. She also advised parents that harbour their handicapped children (blind, deaf and dumb, imbeciles etc) to bring them out for enrolment into the State Social Insurance Scheme. She urged all residents of the State to enroll into OHIS, through payment of 12,066 naira for one person and 57,600 naira for a family of six in order to enjoy the robust OHIS Benefit Package for a whole year.
Commenting on Ramata Adetunji`s case, ES, OHIS Dr. Niyi Oginni advised all the doubting Thomas to quickly key into the scheme now, because OHIS has come to stay. The ES stated that the agency has enrolled all the children in the government correctional centre and School for Special Needs as well as government and private orphanages in the state and they have started receiving FREE quality healthcare as needed. Similarly, batches of enrollees from the formal sector (civil servants), informal sector, organised private sector (family and individuals) and the vulnerable population have started accessing quality healthcare services in the hospitals of their choice among those accredited for the scheme, Ramata`s case is a typical example.
Dr Oginni reminded the people that OHIS is instituted to ensure that all residents of the State have access to quality healthcare services whenever they need it and without financial embarrassment, because the ultimate goal of social health insurance scheme is universal health coverage.
