IGP, Directs Oyo Commissioner of Police to Initiate Appropriate Actions on the Sacked Local Govt Chairmen

The Inspector General of Police IGP Muhammed Adamu has directed the Oyo State Commissioner of Police CP Shina Olukolu to initiate appropriate actions in line with the legal opinion of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mr. Abubakar Malami on the unconstitutional of Dissolution of Elected Local Government Councils and Appointment of Caretaker Committees, the move of the IGP is to reinstate the affected Local Government Chairmen back into their respective offices.

The IGP Muhammed Adamu made this known today in a response to a petition that was directed to the Inspector General of Police from the Oyo State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress Chief Akin Oke, While the Chairman of the party made it known in a letter to the IGP that the Dissolution of Elected Local Government Councils and Appointment of Caretaker Committees is Unconstitutionality and the urgent need for complaince with extant judicial decision.

IGP in a letter dated January 23, 2020 and addressed to the Oyo State All Progressive Congress (APC) Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, asked him to liaise with the Commissioner of Police in the State to falicitate the implementation of the legal opinion of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (AGF) Mr. Abubakar Malami.

The AGF had informed the Governor of the State Mr. Seyi Makinde to demand the dissolution of the local government caretaker Committees and the reinstatement of the democratically elected council chairmen that were illegally sacked within hours of the assumption of office of the Current administration in State.
