Coronavirus: Osun Prohibits Periodic Markets in the State Indefinitely

The State of Osun announced the prohibition of markets and marketing activities that normally take place every 5-day interval across the State. This is imperative at this time because these periodic markets attracts buyers and sellers from all adjoining States to Osun.

Following the sensitisation activities of the State Government on the measures needed to be taken in preventing the menace of Corona Virus, inter-state patronage markets like Ikirun Monday and Thursday markets, Igbona Tuesday market, Sekona, Iwo, Ada, Ilesa, Ife, Owode periodic markets among others remains closed till further notice.

 However, the regular daily markets across the State would remain for as long as the market people strictly observe all laid down rules of preventing Corona virus.

This declaration was made by the Hon. Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives and Empowerment Dr. Bode Olaonipekun and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr Olasiji Olamiju during their tour of the markets across the State.

It was further stated that government will not hesitate to close down any of the daily regular markets that fails to comply with the laid down rules and guidelines issued by authorities.
