This instruction was passed today by the Commissioner for Commerce Industry, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Dr. Bode Olaonipekun during an enforcement visit to markets and commercial centers within Osogbo.
Dr. Olaonipekun said failure of any market to take the precautions will force the State Government to close such markets.
In a continuation of the moves by the State Government to ensure that the citizens do not contract the deadly Corona virus pandemic, the Hon Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives & Empowerment in company of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Cooperatives and Empowerment, Hon. Christiana Ogunfolaju as well as Directors in the Ministry was today at some markets, shopping Complex and Justrite Mall.
At the Market places, both sellers and buyers were educated on the menace of the coronavirus and the precautions to be taken to be safe.
The Ministry of Commerce's Team was at Ayegbaju International Market, New Orisunbare Shopping Complex, Old Orisunbare Market and Justrite Shopping Mall.
The people were advised to take care of their health and also protect others by regularly washing their hands with soap and water or better still rub with alchohol-based hand rub / sanitizer; or both.
The Team also directed that each market and Trader should provide water and soap at their entrances for in-comers to wash their hands as they come in.
Members of the public were also enjoined, among other precautionary measures to observe respiratory hygiene, maintain social distancing, stay adequately informed and follow various advice given by healthcare practitioners and the State Government.
At Orisunbare Market, the Commissioner for Commerce and the Special Adviser, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Mrs Christianah Ogunfolaju held a meeting with the Iyaloja and representatives of the various sections of the market.
The Marketers expressed the wish that their markets would not be closed and promised to observe all the precautionary steps to avert the corona virus pandemic.
At Justrite Shopping Mall, the Team went round every outlet at the mall to ensure they all comply with the precautions. Those who were seen not to be taking the order serious were given stern warning to always ensure their customers' hands were sanitized before any transaction or stand the risk of being closed down as failure to do the right thing poses a high health risk to all in the State it.
