Barr. Olaboopo made the call during a one day public lecture and free medical checkup for women in the State organised by the Ministry and the office of the First Lady as one of the events to Commemorate the year 2020 International Women's Day.
The theme for this year's celebration is "Equal World is an Enabled World". The said events held at the Moremi Events Hall, Abeere, Osogbo.
The Commissioner noted that women contribute largely to the socio economic growth of all nations, yet their contributions are hardly recognized in the society.
She explained that the essence of the yearly commemoration is to celebrate the struggles, determinations and agitations of women and a call to action for all stakeholders to allow equal representation of women and men in decision making and appointments to elective and appointive positions emphasising that efforts should be made to broaden women participation at all levels.
Barr. Olaboopo commended the First Lady of the State, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola for being an ambassador and advocate of the cause of women and gender equality noting that she has always had the interest of women and children at heart ever before she became the wife of the Governor.
Mrs Margaret Olusola Oluyamo in her lecture titled ''An equal world: the need to enable women'', said discrimination against women starts from role sharing by parents. She urged parents to stop giving duties to children based on their sex but rather they should be treated equally.
In appreciating the participants, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs Pharm. Omolara Ajayi thanked Mr. Governor and the First Lady noting that the duo are special endowments to the people of the State. Also present at the occasion were directors in the ministry, the State Apc Woman leader Alhaja Kudirat Fakokunde, Market Women, Female political groups, Non Governmental Organisations, Men of the NURTW, ACCOMORAN, NATA, AJEGUNLE and other stakeholders
Highlight of the event was a cultural display by the State of Osun cultural troop.
The celebration continues with a special jumat service to hold this Friday at the Ansarudeen Central Mosque, Lautech, Osogbo and a thanksgiving service on Sunday at the Methodist Baptist Church, Isale Aro Osogbo.
