I' m Ayotunde Rasheed Jimoh, Special Assistant to Honourable Yemi Lawal, Commissioner for Youth and Sports in the state of Osun.
How has it been in the last one hundred days since Hon. Yemi Lawal came to power?
It has been very eventful. Of course, the first port of call of the Honourable Commissioner when he came on board was to assess the sport facilities in the State to know where we are, how we are doing it and what we are likely to do for the sporting activities in the State, in line with the vision of Governor Gboyega Oyetola and All Progressive Congress in order to boost the sporting activities in the state.
He also convened a meeting with the State Sports Council, Youth Council and also with Osun youth empowerment Scheme (OYES) Management in view of trying to ensure that a new system that will be sustainable than what we met on ground.
On that note the Commissioner is ensuring that the sport council live to the expectation that the sporting activities are activated back in the State of Osun as directed by Governor Gboyega Oyetola and more to that, there is a particular program that is going on in media called Youth policy document to identify our problems and to speak directly to that problem and ensure to put in place plans that will be understood by all the Youths in the State.
As visioned by Mr Governor who has the Youths in his heart, Hon. Commissioner has been directed to allow the youth to participate actively all facets of governance in the State, hence, the Youth Policy Document will enhance the effective participation of Youths in Education, Agriculture, Mining and Entertainment.
The policy which is under review now and which will continue to be reviewed and when implemented by the Governor, will cater for Youths in all the sectors.
*What are the Challenges of your Ministry
Anyone who is running away from challenges is running away for his life, there is no way there wouldn't be challenges. Don't forget that Hon. Yemi Lawal was once a Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2018 Governorship Election in the state before he met himself in this office, and with the way he's been running affairs, I can say he's up to the task.
Though one of the major challenges is financial constraint in the State, but what excuse will you give to failure except success, so despite all odds, he always ensure that things are being done as Governor Gboyega Oyetola directed, As you know it is essential that the Commissioner who wants to work with Mr. Governor to utilize the available resources.
What are the relationship between the Commissioner and the Staffs of the Ministry
The relationship between the Commissioner and staffs of the Ministry is very cordial. He believes in hardwork, transparency and accountability. All these are catalyst to ensuring a good working relationship with him.
What can you say about All Progressive Congress itself
As you all know that Hon. Yemi Lawal was a Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic party SDP before the collation came in, ever since his appointment as a Commissioner in the State, he has been working in line with the vision and mission of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), in the State
What are the Other Programs that the Office of the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sport has for the Youths and Students in the State.
Sporting activities will be activated back before the end of this year. The massive work is going on at the Osogbo City Stadium . Also, there is an ongoing reformation in the activities of Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) to ensure transparency and accountability and to make sure that the aims and objectives of the scheme are not defeated.
What are the plans on the Principal Cup
In response to the agitations for sporting activities to be activated back in our schools, this tournament will be a herald of lots of other engagements that will revive full time sporting activities in our schools all over the state.
What can you say about the coalition of APC and SDP
Coalition of APC and SDP is very intact. As far as Hon. Yemi Lawal is concerned, with his level of maturity and intelligence, he has been able to strike a stanchless balance between the duo, and there has not been rancor or dispute of any form.
