Yesterday, Tuesday April 7, 2020, the Deputy Governor, and some Exco members, State of Osun were on hand to receive thousands of tubers of yam donated to the state by the Federation of Muslim Women in Nigeria, (FOMWON) Osun State branch represented by her State Vice President, Alhaja Sadiat Oladapo to ameliorate the sufferings of the down trodding in the state during the Coronavirus induced lockdown period.
Delivering the message of her President, Alhaja Kudirat Oladunmoye, Alhaja Sadiat Oladapo appreciated the Governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola’s efforts in moving fast to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the State of Osun. In support of the state, she explained that FOMWON had been deeply involved in donation of food items to the less privileged in the society as well as spent a lot to run educative campaigns in four languages (Yoruba, Hausa, Ibo and Pigin) on radio for citizens to know the importance of staying safe at home and keeping social distance. She prayed Allah to continue to bless the state so that the Governor would be able to achieve his laudable objectives for the state.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Barrister Olaboopo Olubukola thanked FOMWON for the laudable donation. She explained further that the state government had distributed crates of eggs and a lot of food items to widows, motherless children and less privileged. She assured FOMWON representative that the gift items brought would be delivered to the appropriate quarters.
Receiving the tubers of yam on behalf of the His Excellency, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, the Deputy Governor, Mr. Gboyega Alabi thanked the leadership and all members of the Federation of Muslim Women in Nigeria (FOMWON) for the thoughtful donation and prayed Allah to replenish them abundantly. He solicited for more efforts on publicity to educate the citizens on the need to stay safe at home and keep social distance.
The State Government declared a lockdown in the state from Wednesday April first to ensure safety of all inhabitants of the state. It is expected that if the lockdown is well observed, the spread of Covid-19 will be drastically minimized through out Nigeria and indeed the whole world.
