Deputy Governor State of Osun Benedict Alabi has presented a sum of three million, one hundred and ninety eight thousand and seventy four Naira (#3,199,074.00)to Osun Health insurance Scheme.
The money was meant to enroll over 300 indigenes of Ikire in Irewole Local Government area, the country home of the Deputy Governor for free medical care under the Osun Health insurance scheme.
The beneficiaries will have unhindered access to free medical care at Ikire Mercy Clinic, a non government organization clinic owned and funded by all the concerned sons and daughters of the ancient town.
The N.G.O Clinic located at St Jude's hospital Laakosin Ikire had earlier been registered by the Osun Health Insurance Scheme as one of it's service providers in the state.
Presenting the cheque to the agency on Saturday in Ikire by his wife Oyefunke, Alabi who himself presented the identity cards of OHIS to the beneficiaries said he took the decision out of the compassion he has for the less privileged who might be facing health challenges and have no means to cater for their medical expenses.
He stated that only a heathy community can be productive saying he did that to encourage other well meaning individuals in Osun and the country to give back to the society where they come from.
He stressed further that as government can not do it all, it is imperative for the privileged in the society to complement the effort of government in making life abundant for the people of society.
In his words, Alabi said, "many of the less privileged in our society that have curable diseases have been sent to their early grave due to lack of money to go to hospitals for medical attention.
" I want our people to live long and healthy in order to be productive and this is a record breaking event as Ikire will be the first community to put together a clinic by her son's and daughters to provide medical care for the less privileged among the people in the community", Alabi stated.
Officials of the agency who spoke at the event which include the Chairman of agency Hon. Adeoye Adelakun, the executive secretary Dr. Adeniyi Oginni commended the Deputy Governor for providing good leadership.
The dou said since the inauguration of the scheme by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola over a year ago, no individual has ever come out to enroll any of the privileged in his or her community for the scheme which according to them is 12,606.00 naira for registration per person to benefit in the scheme for a period of 12 months.
According to Hon. Adelakun, this gesture by the Osun Deputy Governor would bring succor to the under privileged by having access to free medical service as they will only pay 10% on drugs procured and medical care rendered to them on any ailment and health challenge.
"This is very commendable and it shows the commitment of our Deputy Governor to the healthy living of our people.
" This is a good learnership and we want our people especially the political office holders and well meaning individuals in our society to emulate this", Adelakun implored.
