The Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola Tuesday assured that the recruitment exercise for teachers in the state will be merit-driven.
Oyetola gave the assurance in his speech during the inauguration and distribution of educational materials, sports equipment and other materials for pupils with special needs in primary and junior secondary schools at the warehouse of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on Tuesday.
He noted that the initiative of SUBEB to make provision for schools across the state is a continuation of his administration in building the capacity of young ones and posterity for a strong and prosperous state.
He said, “We have followed this up by responding swiftly and bridging the dearth of manpower in the sector through the commencement of the recruitment process for the appointment of more teachers. Very soon, applicants will be taking an aptitude test. To show our commitments to a fair process, we have made it a wholly merit-driven process because we know that only the best is good for our pupils and our State.”
Earlier, the Chairman of SUBEB, Hon Israel Famurewa, in his address explained that the distribution of instructional materials, sports materials and materials for Special Needs is to prioritise the teaching and learning activities in schools as well as making the pupils in the School for Special Needs to have a sense of belonging.
“This is aimed at encouraging pupils to develop skills in sports. It is important to state that today’s event is a further demonstration of the Government’s resolution to concretize her legacy of qualitative education for the younger generation.
He stressed that “the materials and equipment coupled with the availability of highly motivated and competent teachers with pedagogical skills and effective school leaders will lead to the achievement of a schools development plan which is a high standard of education since education remains the key to both growth and development globally.”
