In its efforts at securing lives and putting a stop to road side accidents, Osun State Government has reiterated its commitment to outlaw market overflow into the roads in the state.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Dr Bode Olaonipekun made this known while addressing leadership of the Igbona Market in the state capital, Osogbo.
The Commissioner said illegal road side trading across the state which has impede the free flow of movement as well as expose traders and the general public to road hazards will no longer be accepted.
Dr. Olaonipekun expressed his displeasure at how traders displayed their wares on the road, said enforcement would start in earnest to ensure the safety and security of our people.
According to the commissioner “We have realized that market like Igbona and few other periodic market across the state have turned to daily market and the government will be standing up to ensure that market overflow into the roads is brought to proper check".
He emphasized that, the need for the control is to ensure free flow of traffic around markets inside Osogbo metropolis to help the smooth running of traffic diversions engendered by the Olaiya flyover currently under construction.
He enjoined market men and women in the state to abide by the law to put up their wares in more conducive areas as task force agents would be dispatched to enforce compliance.
The Babaloja of Igbona Market, Elder David Iyiola appreciated the Commissioner for his visit and promised that the leadership of the market will start enforcing no road side trading.
On the entourage to the market were, the Coordinating Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Kehinde Odediran, Director Commerce and Investment Promotion, Mrs Ajibola Falode among others.
