The Governor of Osun state Mr Gboyega Oyetola has Flag-off Deworming Programme for all the primary school pupils in the state organized by Senior Special Assistant to the governor on O, Meal, Alhaja Fausiat Olaniyan at Anthony's udofia primary school Osogbo, the governor who was represented at the occasion by his deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi.
In her welcome address, The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Osun State on O-Meals, Alhaja Fauziat Olaniyan, charged the parents in the state to maintain a clean and healthy environment in order to prevent the spread of worm infection in the State.
According to her, "I humbly welcome you all to the occasion of Flag-off of 2021 Deworming Programme of all pupils in public primary schools in Osun State.
“Today marks the observation of an important event in the life of Osun child, as we have gathered to ensure that another generation of the future leaders of the state have a life that is free from health and medical complications.
“As you are all aware, worm infect more than one third of the world’s population with the most intent infections in children and the poor.
“There is strong evidence demonstrating how worm infection damage child’s health. Round worm are most prevalent soil transmitted helminthes infection in pre-school children and cause poor absorption in Vitamin A which can aggravate to malnutrition and anemia rates and contribute to retender growth.
“Realizing that children from poor homes are under priviledge and disadvantage, it becomes imperative for this present administration to show love and assist these children in diverse areas free health as well as de-worming programme for the school children,” she stated.
Speaking further, the governor’s aide added that “It is very important to implore the parents in the state to encourage hand washing among the children, as well as maintain a clean and healthy environment so as to prevent them contracting worm infections.
“This auspicious occasion also informs the World of the Pro-Health and Medically Proactive disposition of the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, to the good people of Osun State.
“For us at the O- Meals office, Osogbo, it follows sensibly that in addition to ensuring the nutritional correctness of the Osun child, the health and medical State of these young ones also carries huge importance, hence we are always disposed to partnering with the Health Sector, as this will secure the overall welfare and wellbeing of our children.”
Mrs Olaniyan further stated that the past years of Governor Oyetola’s administration has invariably ensured a healthier Osun State with laudable achievements such as the improved proximity to medical options for the residents of the state.
“The De-Worming Exercise taking place today is the reason thousands of Osun Children will not ever suffer life changing medical expenses and this is enough to attract commendation that will serve as Ilerioluwa’s testimonials for another,” she said.
In wife of the governor speech, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola, "It is a great delight to have participated in the deworming exercise of Osun O-Meal Project.
"I am impressed that the O-Meal Authority has continued to make this exercise a regular one, It goes to show the commitment of the authority to the success of the efforts of the State Government at giving virile and accessible health care system to our children.
"This program also shows the mindfulness of the O-Meal authority to the fact that as our pupils are given nutritious meal in schools, they are not allowed to have worm infestation.
This will accrue optimal nutritional benefits to our children.
Health is a key component of productivity.l, we therefore must do everything to keep our people healthy. This will help us to generate more wealth for the benefit of the State.
