The Osun Western Security Network Agency coded as "Amotekun Corps" on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of one fraudster who has been defrauding innocent residents of the state and other states in south west by buying goods, collecting money from points of Sales (POS) operators with fake bank alerts.
The suspect named Oderinde Wasiu Damilare have been defrauding the POS within the state and outside the state with fake bank alerts.
Speaking on the arrest of the suspect, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, Field Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, said that the suspect were arrested after series of complaints from some of the victims.
According to him, "On 24th January, 2022 at about 1220hours a report was brought to Amotekun Corps office at the Area Office, Modakeke by one man simply identified as PT who reported that the suspect named Oderinde Wasiu Oluwadamilare has been duping his point of sales across the state.
"The investigative apparatus were deployed which led to the arrest of the suspect.
"The suspect Oderinde Wasiu Oluwadamilare aged 25 years an indigene of Ilobu from Balogun's Compound when questioned on the matter affirmed that the allegation about him is true that he started the act of defrauding people with ATM card across the western states few months ago.
Upon interrogation the suspect also revealed that he had perpetrated the act in Ondo State and Osun State in towns like Akure, Ile-ife, Osogbo, and Modakeke, he claimed to have been duping his victims to the tune of N95,000 (ninety five thousand naira) each time he contacted his unsuspected victims.
"He further confirmed to us from investigation to be a member of Eye Confraternity which he joined during secondary school days.
"One Mrs Taiwo Olatipe who resides in Akure is also his victim.
"The exhibit found on him includes, One Wrist watch, A power bank with white cord, One brown comb, One small itel phone, One pendant, White colored ear piece, One identity card belonging to Oderinde Wasiu Oluwadamilare in a black men purse and one small black cross bag.
While urging the public to be conscious of who they transact business with, the Field Commander, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, emphasised that investigation is on towards curbing the new trend.
"It has become necessary at this point to alert members of the public to a new trick being adopted by some con men to defraud people.
"The unscrupulous elements go to commercial outlets including shops, Petrol Stations, hotels, Supermarkets and purchase goods and services and ask to be allowed to pay through POS.
"They then proceed to manipulate the POS and generate credit alert without the account being credited.
The suspect has been handed over to the appropriate quarter for further investigation and prosecution.
