The winner of the Ife South Local Government All Progressive Congress (APC) House of Assembly
election held on Thursday 22, May 2022, Hon Najeem Oyewumi has broken silence on the allegations against the leaders of the party and community leaders of Manipulation and Conspiracy of the Local
Government House of Assembly Primary Election. He disclosed in an interview with
IDEALPLUS.COM, where he explained how he strategies to win the said election.
*Can We Meet you, sir? *
Thank you, My name is Najeem Oyewumi, an Indigene of Ifetedo, I was born and brought up in Ifetedo, I had my elementary school at Ansar Deen Primary School, and my secondary education at Ifetedo High School before proceeding to the University of Ibadan to study Petroleum engineering and after spending some years in Nigeria, I traveled out of the country to the United Kingdom where I studied another degree in oil and gas management at University of Plymouth and presently completing a Master Degree in
Health, Safety, and Environmental Management at Middlesex University London. Professionally, I am a certified project manager with Prince 2 foundation and practitioners, a qualified scrum master and a
Business analyst which I combine with software testing, To the glory of God I am married with children
and am back in Nigeria now to contest for the House of Assembly to represent the good people of Ife
South State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly in 2023 a position I contested about 3 years ago.
*What can you say about the last APC House of Assembly Primary Election in Ife South Local Government, where some APC youths in your Constituency alleged some leaders of Manipulation and
Conspiracy? *
Thank you,
There is absolutely nothing like a conspiracy in the election, and to allege a conspiracy theory against the leaders is a bit unfortunate and unfair to the party hierarchy. The party in Ife South is made up of eminent and seasoned stakeholders with years of political experience of which one of the aspirants in the election,
Honorable Adeniran Okiki is a member of the stakeholders and another aspirant’s father, Wasiu Ojewande is equally a
member of the stakeholder's committee. My humble self and the incumbent are the only two aspirants without close relation in the stakeholder's committee and I do not in realistic terms believed the two others with direct links among the stakeholders will conspire against themselves to fall in the election.
Politics like sport must produce a winner and it is naturally expected that there must be a complaint from
any defeated aspirants. It is part of the political game, but this does not or should not be interpreted as a political conspiracy against anyone nor a mischievous manipulation attempt by the leaders.
There was nothing of such. The election was conducted, and a winner emerged. I am aware of what happened at
Kere, Osi, and Abiri Ogudu wards that the victory belongs to God and there is no need to make too much noise about the past.
We went round and campaigned in all the wards in the local government, told them our ideas, and what we have done for the community in the past, which include the contribution to the Local government electricity restoration, it was on record that I Najeem Oyewumi was one of the people that championed the reconnection of light when the light of the local was disconnected, we led a team to the House of Assembly where we got 40% discount from IBEDC, I Najeem Oyewumi joined others and drafted a letter to the House of Assembly where the 40% discount was secured not for Ifetedo, not for Garage Olde but the entire Ife
South Local Government,
We make sure that 22 million Naira that was alleged as debt for Ifetedo was cleared off, after clearing off the debts we still have the sum of 847,000 Naira which was properly accounted for and handed over to the community.
We set up a widows empowerment program and this was the first time this type of program will be set up in the community, we sponsor less privileged students in the community and offer empowerment support for some young adults. We are never far from our people even though we reside many miles away from home. These are the products we market for the people that won us the victory.
We did not restrict our campaigns to established individuals but ensured we campaign and identified
with communities and interacted with them as one of them and we were accepted as theirs. Our
opponents should tell the world what their programs were before the primary and what they promised our
people during the election and/or what they have done to promote the community and the people.
The difference in the election was purely personality and pedigree and not manipulation nor conspiracy as alleged.
I commend the state executive of the party for allowing a primary and many thanks to the governor for the fatherly role he played during the process leading to the election by allowing every aspirant to test their
popularity and acceptance among their people, I also comment on the party leadership in the local
government for ensuring the success of the primary election and for effectively mobilizing members to
participate fully in the electoral process.
The party members also deserve praise for not only conducting themselves in an orderly manner but for
ensuring that their choices are expressed freely, and fairly, and a winner emerged.
I also applaud security officers for creating the environment, which enabled the primary election to be
conducted peacefully.
*What advice will you give to APC members in Ifetedo and its environs as the APC Governorship election
is drawing nearer? *
I want to urge and appeal to them to believe that no one gets into any position except by grace and not to relent in
supporting the governor for a second term and they should vote massively for the party APC and the
the governor on July 16th gubernatorial election. The July 16th governorship election remains our main target and focus
as this is where and what determines the rest.
Gods willing, we will win all the elections in the state, and everyone will be happy with the outcome of the
election. It rains everywhere and it is in the atmosphere of peace that we can all enjoy the dividends of
democracy
Politically, we are progressive and aside from politics we are one family, politics must and should not bring division among us. I congratulate all of us as a winner and I promise I will do everything humanly possible to consult with other aspirants and collectively we shall ensure victory for the party. We belong to the same family, we believe that we will disagree to agree, we should not think because we contested against each other we should now put fire on the roof, Politics is like a sport in which a winner must emerge, and a winner has emerged of which this time happened to be Oyewumi Najeem. Others should let us work together and bring the party together to achieve success on July 16th when Governor Gboyega Oyetola will be declared the winner by God's Grace.
