The political situation in Osun State is sliding into a dangerous dimension as an intelligence report has revealed a coordinated plan by a group of hired political thugs to attack and assassinate the media teams of both Governor Gboyega Oyetola and that of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It was learnt that rising from a meeting at a location in Ede yesterday, part of the resolutions of the coalition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and The Osun Progressives (TOP) which is an ally of the PDP in Osun State in their 'Oyetola, Famodun Must Go Project' is to resort to attacks that could lead to assassination of those managing the media of the government and the party.
It was gathered that the belief of the masterminds and sponsors of these planned attacks on the Oyetola and Famodun's media teams is to deny the government and the party an opportunity to air their views on any contemporary political issues at this crucial time in the political history of the state.
Information also has it that some disenchanted and heavily compromised statutory security officers in the state have been coopted into the assassination of the media teams' script.
It would be recalled that some apologists and members of the PDP and TOP have been exhibiting bellingerent attitudes through their written comments or recorded voices in the social media towards anyone who dares to criticize Senator Ademola Adeleke over his questionable winner of the July 16, 2022 governorship election which is now a subject of litigation in the state.
Observations since after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the election have shown that whoever wanted the wrath of the TOP members and their leaders should criticize the dancing senator as a torrent of unimaginable and unexpected verbal assaults from the TOP members would dominate the social media space.
It would not be an overstatement to state and conclude that prior to, during and after the governorship election in Osun State, the TOP handlers and their members have been playing a fiercer oppositional role to the Governor Oyetola-led administration more than the PDP itself.
It is for these aforementioned reasons that it is pertinent for the state commissioner of police under the leadership of Mr Olokode to urgently, together with the leaders of the other security agencies in the state, extend the statutory security tentacles over the said media teams whose lives are being sought after by the agents of darkness.
The state commissioner of police and the members of the society should know that the coalition of the PDP and TOP should be held responsible if anything untoward should happen to any member of the governor or state APC chairman's media teams, members of their families and their movable and immovable property.
Criticism is known to be an essential ingredient of a perfect democratic government; there is no fathomable reason why anyone who is leading or aspiring to lead should be afraid of criticism if there is nothing spectacular or fundamental to hide from the innocent members of the public.
The state Commissioner for Information is Mrs Funke Egbemode ; the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Oyetola is Alhaji Ismail Omipidan while Barrister Kunle Oyatomi is the state APC Director of Media, Strategy and Research with Isaac Olusesi as his deputy. Kola Olabisi is the Media Adviser to the state party chairman, Prince Famodun.
