General Election: Osun Amotekun Debunks allegations against Participation in the Election

The Osun Amotekun corps has debunks a statement by the APC PCC Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council on the allegations leveled against the corps that there is a plan to use Amotekun to Rig Presidential Election in Osun.

Making this known via a statement jointly signed by Corps Commander Bridg. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (Rtd) and the Field Commander Captain Soji Akanni (Rtd), maintained that the allegations are a fallacy and the agency is not connected with it.

They described the allegations as malicious and propaganda to tarnish the reputable image of the corps in the state.

According to the statement, "The attention of Osun Amotekun Corps has been drawn to a press statement spreading around on social media where libelous allegations were made against Osun Amotekun Corps that a PDP has concluded an arrangement to make use of the Amotekun corps to rig the elections by kitting some political thugs in the outfit of the Amotekun who will be mobilized to prevent the opposition and their supporters from voting.

"We wish to inform the general public that Osun Amotekun Corps is not participating in the election and know patrol vehicles and the personnel of the corps are on the street to monitor the election. We urge the general public to disregard the propagandist spreading false allegations."

"The Inspector General of Police has directed all local security agencies not to take part in elections security and All Area Commanders and operatives of Amotekun have been directed as such."

The statement, which stressed that no party can lay claim to the security outfit as it is non-partisan and belongs to the entire citizen of the state, added that Osun Amotekun corps is an establishment of the law.

"We, however, urge the promoters of the statement to henceforth stop disseminating false information to the public," it concluded.
