A socio-political group supporting the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kasim Shettima in the last Presidential Election in Nigeria, "Teni-N-Teni" has congratulated the newly elected principal officers of the 10th National Assembly.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday by its State Coordinator, Hon. Taiwo Bakare, the group acknowledged the newly elected Majority Leader of the Senate, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, Chief Whip, Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume, Deputy Majority Leader, Sen. David Umahi, Deputy Chief Whip, Sen. Lola Ashiru; as well as the Newly elected Principal Officers of the House of Representatives, Majority Leader, Hon. Julius Ihonvbere, Chief Whip of the House, Rt. Hon. Usman Kumo, Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Halims Abdulahi, and Deputy Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Oriyomi Onanuga, respectively on their new positions.
The group urged the principal officers to uphold the tenets of democracy and the dictates of the Constitution.
The statement read, "We congratulate the Newly Elected Principal Officers of the 10th National Assembly.
" Our group, therefore, charges the federal lawmakers, as representatives of the people, to place the welfare, wishes, and aspirations of Nigerians above every other consideration by ensuring a strong and independent legislature that upholds the tenets of democracy and dictates of our constitution."
The statement added that the National Assembly should remember its allegiance is to the people and resist all forms of manipulations that might undermine the country's democratic order.
"The group urged the National Assembly to support the good governance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kasim Shettima to take the country to a greater height in no distant time," Bakare said.
"Our group, therefore, charges the legislature to work only in the interest of our nation and resist the manipulations and pressure that might come from quarters that seek to undermine our democratic order."
