A 40-year-old man named Lekan Sunday was arrested on suspicion of raping a female prophet in a church.
He was said to have committed the crime in Ogun State last Thursday, but 4,444 operatives of the state command were able to arrest him on Monday. Victim was found sleeping with a weapon.
The suspects invaded Orioke Anu Oluwa Gbofunmi Church in Irogbo Addo area of Kemta, Abeokuta District. The suspect reportedly restrained the prophetess and held a knife to her face, threatening to kill her if she did not stop being so assertive.
When the prophetess tried unsuccessfully to seek help from those close to her, she reportedly began begging for sympathy from her assailants. The victim who allegedly raped the prophetess after finally making her submit to him is said to have approached the nearby police station and the incident was reported.
The police received the report and began searching for the suspect who had fled. He was subsequently arrested on Monday. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, he said the Prophetess identified the suspect as a bricklayer and a laborer who worked in the area.
"The incident occurred last Thursday. We arrested the suspect (Monday). "Preliminary investigation into the matter is underway," Odutola said in a WhatsApp message.
