OsunOpenLG: Stakeholders Held First Town Hall Meeting.


The OsunOpenLG stakeholders held their first town hall meeting ahead of the local government polls 

 The meeting was organized by the Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development at Benbar hall in Osogbo.

Jare Tiamiyu, the Executive Director of OsunOpenLG, described the OsunOpenLG initiative as a movement aimed at providing grassroots leadership and community engagement in each local government in the state. He emphasized the importance of civic engagement, where young people can hold their leaders accountable for funding and other accountabilities.

Tiamiyu also stated that the OsunOpenLG initiative is ready to provide a way forward regarding the recent supreme court judgment, which allows funds to come directly to the local government chairmen. He emphasized the need to hold the local government chairman accountable and brought in the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to ensure credible elections.

A member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, encouraged everyone to participate in the forthcoming local government election, emphasizing that everyone has a role to play in the development of local communities.


The OSSIEC Chairman, Hashim Abioye, assured that OSSIEC is ready and prepared to conduct a free and fair election. The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) Commissioner in Osun, Comm. Hassan Hafiz, stated that ICPC will try to remove the opacity around the budget process within the local government and monitor expenditures more strenuously.
