Hours after Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq visited Babanla community in Ifelodun Local Government Area on Saturday to reassure residents of improved security, suspected bandits abducted two people in the area.
According to NupekoTv, the governor visited the area to reassure residents and restore a sense of security amid ongoing fears of banditry and kidnappings.
However, the criminals struck soon after his departure, highlighting the persistent threat and heightening tension in the community.
The incident reportedly threw residents into fresh panic despite earlier promises of tighter security measures.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s visit was aimed at boosting morale and addressing the fears of residents who have faced recurring banditry and kidnapping attacks in recent months.
Security operatives have reportedly begun a manhunt for the kidnappers, though details of the victims’ identities remain sketchy as of press time.
Meanwhile, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Saturday toured communities in Ifelodun to reassure residents of the government’s commitment to strengthening public safety and boosting economic activities.
In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, it was noted that Governor AbdulRazaq commiserated with families who lost loved ones, assuring them of sustained efforts to prevent further security breaches and pledging social support for those affected by the recent incident.
Ajakaye noted that the Governor was received in Babanla by the Oba of Babanla, Oba Aliyu Adegboyega Yusuf Arojojoye ll, and his chiefs.
“We are here in Babanla today to commiserate with you over the recent incident. We reassure you and other communities and our people that we will ensure this doesn't happen again. It is a sad incident which we are working hard to curtail.
“You can see that the security commanders are also here, and you have seen activities (return to normalcy) over the past one week or two.
“It had never happened like this before. Obviously, there has been pressure on those criminal non-state actors in other regions. And that has forced them into this peaceful location. But surely they will be flushed out of this area," the governor said.
AbdulRazaq expressed satisfaction with the return of calmness to the areas, saying: “We will make sure everything is in order and you live in peace.”
Ajakaye added that the Governor said he has directed the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) to extend support to the affected persons.
