The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced it will arraign 23 individuals suspected of internet fraud before Justice D. Dipeolu at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday, August 15, 2025.
The suspects were among 93 individuals apprehended during a sting operation conducted by EFCC operatives at a hotel located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) premises in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The operation targeted a pool party reportedly organized to celebrate alleged cybercrime activities.
According to the EFCC, preliminary profiling of the suspects indicates that most face charges related to impersonation, identity theft, and various forms of internet fraud.
A statement from the agency reads in part:
“Following the arrest of 93 suspected internet fraudsters at a hotel within the precincts of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, the EFCC will, on Friday, August 15, 2025, arraign 23 of the suspects before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
“Investigations revealed that the suspects were attending a party initially planned for two different locations, but later moved to the OOPL hotel in an attempt to avoid EFCC surveillance. The location shift was reportedly based on a false belief that the premises would offer protection from law enforcement action.”
The EFCC clarified that the library complex itself was not the target of the operation, but rather the individuals involved. The agency further stated that the remaining suspects would be arraigned in subsequent batches.
