"Woman Vanishes After Leaving 5-Month-Old Baby for NYSC; Missing for 2 Years, Family Tells Husband to ‘Move On’"

A man has shared a troubling story about how his wife left their 5-month-old baby in his care to participate in the one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) — and never returned.

The incident was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as @sledge_baba. According to his post, the woman departed for her NYSC program and cut off all contact with her husband and child. Despite multiple efforts to reach her, the husband received no response.

In a shocking twist, when he contacted her family for help, they allegedly told him to "move on" and stop worrying about her whereabouts.

The post read:

“Saw this weird story where a woman left her 5-month-old baby with her husband and went for NYSC. It’s been 2 yrs now and she hasn’t returned or even reached out to the husband.
He contacted her family and they told him to move on and not worry about her.
Inside life.”

When asked for more details, @sledge_baba added that several people had reportedly seen the woman in Abuja and claimed she was doing well.

The story triggered emotional reactions online:

  • @Ets_Ore said: “It must be jazz, I don’t think a human being can be this heartless to her child.”
  • @nyong_collins joked: “They triggered her release clause and she has joined the new rich club. Let Oga just move on, everything will be fine.”
  • @Rabikeyetunde speculated: “She definitely found someone who deceived her with money, cuz it can only be that reason for her not to have returned.”

The incident continues to stir debate around parenting, abandonment, and the pressures of societal expectations.
