According to a report by Leadership Newspapers on Saturday, September 13, 2025, new developments have come to light regarding the deaths of Comfort Jimtop Oliver, a 100-level Mass Communication student at Taraba State University, and her alleged boyfriend, Emmanuel Kefas.
Comfort, a 25-year-old from Takum Local Government Area, was declared missing after she left home and failed to return.
Her body was discovered two days later inside Emmanuel's locked apartment in the Bakasi area of Jalingo, near the Vice-Chancellor’s Gate and Dr. Rapha Memorial Guest Inn.
The apartment, according to reports, had been locked from the outside, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Emmanuel Kefas, who completed his degree in Human Kinetics at the university in 2024, was also found dead shortly afterward in Tudiri, a nearby community on the outskirts of Jalingo.
Authorities believe he may have taken his own life following Comfort’s death.
However, conflicting reports have created uncertainty over whether he was truly responsible for her death or whether another person may have been involved.
Neighbors and fellow students who live around the area have claimed that Emmanuel and Comfort had been in a relationship for some time and that their relationship was often troubled.
Some residents alleged that Emmanuel was known to physically abuse Comfort during their frequent arguments.
While initial speculation suggested Emmanuel had fled after Comfort’s death, his own sudden death hours later has led to doubts about this version of events.
While the Taraba State Police Command has since opened an investigation into the incident, there is another school of thought which believed that the murderer was still at large as Emmanuel Kefas was just a victim of circumstances.
