The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in a series of intelligence-led operations that led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a stolen vehicle, the victim’s SUV, a network jammer, and the suspects’ operational car.
Armed Robbery: Two Arrested, AK-47 Recovered
On 12th September, acting on actionable intelligence, officers from the Ekpan Division, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Labe Joseph, arrested two suspects — Elvis Ebroghro, 36, and Abiola Adegore, 34 — both residents of Ometan. The pair was apprehended after allegedly threatening a community security guard, Abdullahi Mohammed, who caught them attempting to steal a car battery.
Following a confession from one of the suspects, the police arrested a third suspect, Lucky Ebroghro. During the operation, an AK-47 rifle was recovered from an abandoned building in the Ometan community, believed to be connected to the robbery syndicate. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
Kidnap Victim Rescued, Three Suspects Arrested
In a separate incident, a man was abducted from his home in Ogwashi-Uku in the early hours of 8th September. According to police, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦2 million and shot the victim in the leg after accusing him of not paying enough. The victim was later rescued by officers of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor, during a raid in the Ogwashi-Uku forest.
The suspects — Chukwuebuka Nka, 25, from Enugu State, and Uche Okechukwu from Imo State — were later apprehended along Owerri Road in Anambra State, where police also recovered the victim’s white Venza SUV.
Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, 18-year-old Somto Chukwuma from Anambra State, at a hideout in Agidiase village, Ogwashi-Uku. The police recovered a Toyota Matrix (registration number RRT-331-AE), believed to have been used in the kidnapping, along with a network jammer used by the suspects to block communication signals.
Commissioner Commends Operatives
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the professionalism and resilience of the officers involved, reaffirming the Command's commitment to cracking down on criminal activity across the state.
“There will be no safe haven for criminals in Delta State,” he declared, promising continued operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents.
