According to a report by the Punch on Monday, October 27, 2025, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has strongly criticized Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress while also targeting the opposition Peoples Democratic Party's governance record in Adamawa State. Lawal, now serving as National Vice Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, made these remarks during a party stakeholders' meeting that also featured the defection of a former governorship candidate to the ADC.
Lawal directed particular criticism at the PDP-led administration in Adamawa State, questioning the state's development outcomes despite substantial financial allocations. He pointedly observed that "All we get from over six years of PDP governance is a couple of flyovers carrying scanty traffic despite billions of naira accruing to the state," highlighting what he characterized as inadequate returns on public investment.
The former government official also targeted the national ruling party, describing the APC as a haven for individuals evading anti-corruption authorities. He accused the party of relying on election manipulation rather than genuine popular support, warning that Nigerians would resist any attempts to criminally manipulate the 2027 election results.
Despite his criticism of other parties, Lawal emphasized that the ADC would maintain selective membership standards to prevent what he called the corruption of the party's ideals by politicians carrying undemocratic attitudes from their previous affiliations. He described the ADC as a party of visionaries and patriots committed to redirecting Nigeria's governance.
The meeting also featured the formal defection of former Kogi State governorship candidate Otunba Olayinka Braimoh from the Action Alliance to the ADC. Braimoh explained that his decision was motivated by the ADC's potential to bring genuine leadership change to Kogi State, which he said had suffered from poor governance despite its considerable potential.
ADC leaders from both states expressed confidence in their electoral prospects, urging citizens to obtain Permanent Voter Cards as essential tools for political change. The developments indicate ongoing political realignments in Nigeria as opposition parties position themselves for the 2027 general elections.
