Senator Ned Nwoko has disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally assured him of his support for the creation of Anioma State prior to his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, the senator representing Delta North said the president’s assurance played a significant role in his decision to join the ruling party.
According to Nwoko, he had a “long and sincere conversation” with President Tinubu, during which the president expressed his commitment to equity, justice, and fair representation among Nigeria’s regions. He explained that Tinubu promised to back the creation of Anioma State, a proposed state that would be carved out from Delta North Senatorial District, to ensure regional balance within the Southeast.
“The Southeast currently has only five states, unlike other regions with six or more,” Nwoko noted. “The creation of Anioma State will correct this structural imbalance and promote fairness in our federation. Anioma is economically viable, politically stable, and united in its quest for recognition.”
The senator further described Tinubu as “a man who keeps his promises,” expressing optimism that his administration would handle issues of state creation with fairness rather than political bias. He emphasized that the president’s support for Anioma State represents not just a political gesture but a commitment to national unity and development.
“I believe the president will fulfill his promise,” Nwoko concluded. “This is not just about Anioma; it is about justice and equity for millions of Nigerians who believe in a fairer, more balanced federation.”
