How Gov Bala Personally Blocked Wike, Chased Out His Men From PDP National Headquarters

Abuja was buzzing yesterday as Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed literally stood at the gates of the Peoples Democratic Party’s national secretariat and stopped Nyesom Wike’s loyalists in their tracks.

Sources inside Wike Abubakar National Secretariat told this reporter that the former Rivers governor had quietly mobilized some of his key allies – including a serving South-South governor and several big-money party financiers – to storm the place and force their way into the ongoing National Caucus meeting. The plan, insiders say, was to disrupt proceedings and push for the removal of acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, seen as Wike’s last foothold in the party’s structure.
But Governor Bala got wind of the move hours earlier. Around 3pm, he arrived the secretariat unannounced with his own team of youth leaders, ex-lawmakers and die-hard PDP faithful from the North-East and North-West. By 4:15pm, Bala was personally at the main entrance, arms folded, daring anyone to cross the line.
“When Wike’s boys started rolling in with tinted SUVs, Governor Bala just stood there and told the security: ‘Nobody enters without clearance from the governors here today’,” an eyewitness said. “Two of the guys tried to argue, shouting that they were national officers. Bala looked them in the eye and said, ‘National officer ko, national thief ni. Turn back now or we disgrace you here.’ They turned.”

The standoff lasted nearly 45 minutes. Phones were out, videos flying on WhatsApp groups. At one point, a senior Wike ally reportedly called the FCT minister live on speaker, threatening to “bring down the party”. Bala allegedly grabbed the phone and told Wike point-blank: “Come yourself if you get liver.”
By 6pm, Wike’s men had melted away. The caucus meeting went ahead peacefully, and Damagum’s fate now hangs even heavier. Party sources say Bala has the quiet backing of Atiku Abubakar and four other governors who want Wike completely cut off before 2027.
One Northern governor present summed it up: “Today Bala showed that this party still has men who can stand for something. Wike met his match.”
As at press time, neither camp has issued an official statement, but the message from Legacy House yesterday was clear – the era of taking PDP for granted is over.
