Nigerians Lauds Tinubu For Approving Civil Defence Officers As VIPs Guards, Pass Votes Of Confidence On NSCDC ...Tells the President to implement this directive

Nigeriana has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the use of Civil Defence Officers As the guarding guards for VIPs in the country.

This is as the citizens passed vote of confidence on the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC for their professionalism and proactiveness in the discharge of duties, and they also called on President Tinubu to order the immediate implementation of NSCDC officers as VIP guarding guards.

The people who were reacting to the order of the President on the withdrawal of Police Officers Guarding VIPs, which was reached during a security meeting with service chiefs at the State House in Abuja, emphasised that NSCDC officers would do a better job as guard escorts of Nigerian VIPs.

The netizens lauded President Tinubu for ordering "police authorities to deploy their personnel to concentrate on their core police duties, as he directed VIPs who want police protection to now request for well-armed personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

According to the various remarks tweeted in reaction to the Presidential order which came at the heels of the waves of abduction and security threats across the country, "this is a good development as we have seen the successful performance rate of the Civil Defence operation, and we believe in them to perform well and professionally as VIPs guards, the narrative will change positively."

It can be recalled that the President gave the order during a security meeting with Security Service Chiefs including the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Tosin Adeola Ajayi.

According to the release by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga” shortly after the meeting notes that many parts of Nigeria, especially remote areas, have few policemen at the stations, thus making the task of protecting and defending the people difficult.

“In view of the current security challenges facing the country, President Tinubu is desirous of boosting police presence in all communities.

“Already, President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional police officers. The federal government is also collaborating with the states to upgrade police training facilities nationwide,” Onanuga said.
