Ghaff Unity Mourns OAU Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, Commiserates With Timi of Ede, President Tinubu, OAU Community and Osun State …Describes Him as a Global Historian, a Renowned Polymath

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ede North, Hon. Ayodeji Ajani Ghaffar (Ghaff Unity), has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, the Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, describing the renowned academic as “an historian of global standing and an embodiment of world history.”

In a heartfelt condolence message released on tuesday, Ghaff Unity said the death of Prof. Oyeweso, an illustrious son of Ede and one of Osun State’s foremost intellectual exports, has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill within Nigeria’s academic and cultural landscape.

He noted that Prof. Oyeweso’s contributions to historical scholarship, nation-building, and the promotion of Yoruba and African heritage earned him both national honour and international acclaim, stressing that his demise represents not just the loss of an academic icon, but “a monumental blow to the intellectual capital of Osun and Nigeria at large.”

Ghaff Unity extended condolences to the Timi of Ede, His Royal Majesty Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, the entire Ede community, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leadership and academic community of OAU, and people of Osun State.

“The unfortunate news of the death of Prof Siyan Oyeweso has come to me as a rude and devastating shock. Prof was an illustrious son of Ede whose intelligence placed Ede in the spotlight of global excellence. Prof. Oyeweso was more than a scholar; he was a bridge between generations, a custodian of our heritage, and a global voice in the preservation of African history. His departure is painful, but his legacy remains indelible. He was a mentor to many, a pathfinder and an embodiment of humanity.” he said.

He prayed for strength for the family of the late scholar and urged the people of Ede and Osun State to take solace in the impactful life the professor lived.

 “I pray Almighty Allah grants him Aljannah firdaus. May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and give all of us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he concluded.
