According to a recent post by Daily Trust on Monday December 1, 2025, local vigilantes have reportedly freed the kidnapped traditional ruler of the Bayagan community in Kwara State, Oba Kamilu Salami, and six other captives.
According to a source close to the monarch's family, the victims escaped following a fierce gun battle initiated by the vigilantes against the kidnappers in the Eku Idaji forest near Igbaja.
"The vigilantes engaged the bandits in a serious firefight in the forest. That was how he and six others managed to escape," the source stated.
While the abductees have allegedly contacted relatives to confirm their safety, none have yet returned to the community. However, official confirmation remains pending.
Both the State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, and the area's lawmaker, Hon. Abolarin, stated they have not verified the escape, with police operations still ongoing in the bush.
The development follows the kidnappers' earlier demand for a N150 million ransom after abducting the monarch from his farm on Saturday.
