The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has warned that it will resist any attempt to impose coordinators across local government areas without the consent of existing members, following the party’s alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a New Year message jointly signed by state executives, Accord Osun congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his administration’s progress and reaffirmed its support. However, the party expressed concerns over unresolved agreements and uncertainty surrounding the PDP alliance.
“We are wholeheartedly in support of Your Excellency and ready to work for and with you,” the statement read. “But we must remind you of the promises made to our party, and we are increasingly impatient about when these promises will be fulfilled.”
The party raised alarm that its former chairman allegedly handed over Accord’s structures from ward to state level-to the PDP without consulting members. “We say no to this,” the statement declared, insisting that Accord remains an independent political entity.
Accord Osun also rejected reports that the caretaker committee, led by Pastor Victor, intends to appoint coordinators statewide without formal agreement from party members. “We are the landlords. We must be consulted and considered if anything must be done within our party,” the leadership said.
The party further questioned the benefits of the alliance, particularly regarding appointments and opportunities for its members to contest future elections. “It is important to ask Mr. Governor: what do you have for us for taking over our party?” the statement queried.
Hon. Yakub Olayinka, State Organising Secretary, emphasized that political parties are collective institutions and should not be treated as personal property.
The message was endorsed by Oladapo O. Joseph (State Treasurer), Babalola Tolulope (State Youth Leader), Alhaji Nasiru Bolarinwa (State Secretary), Alhaja Rukayat Olanrewaju (Women Leader), and Adedayo Daniel Oluwole (State Publicity Secretary).
Accord Osun urged Governor Adeleke and other stakeholders to engage in dialogue to clarify the terms of the alliance, ensure inclusiveness, and respect the party’s internal structures going forward.
