The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Ajibola Basiru, has felicitated a national leader of the party, Chief Adebisi Akande, on his 87th birthday.
Dr Basiru, in a congratulatory message, describes Baba Akande as an icon of the Progressives who has never, for a second or through a step abandon the fold he joined as a disciple of the legendary Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
"Baba Akande is an unparalleled model for the Progressives. He has stood as the rock of Gibraltar behind the party despite its metamorphosis necessitating a change in nomenclature."
"Chief Bisi Akande is an altruistic politician, a Spartan who has lived a selfless life despite early exposure to treasury. He was the Secretary to the Government of the old Oyo State, later the Deputy Governor before capping it with a Governorship position in the nascent Osun State."
"I cannot, in a hurry, forget the roles Baba has played in my personal life and political career. He nurtured me from being a political foliage to what I am today. I owe Baba a lot."
Dr Ajibola Basiru states that Baba Akande's roles in the nation's return to democracy, as well as bringing the Progressives to national limelight, cannot be wished away as the interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress. Basiru stresses that ever since Baba left the position, he has neither left the party nor exhibit disintrestedness in the party's affairs.
"Today, as always, I celebrate Baba as he inches towards joining the nonagenarian club. I doff my hat for the Pro Chancellor and Chairman, the Governor's Council of the University of Ibadan. I pray God grant him more glorious years on earth so we can drink more from his fountain of intellectual endowment."
