Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has issued a bold warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that political defections will not guarantee electoral victory.
Speaking to supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement at his Miller Road residence, Kwankwaso reacted to the defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the APC, dismissing it as a minor setback.
He reminded his audience of the 2019 political landscape in Kano, where the Kwankwasiyya structure held no councillor, senator, or House of Representatives seat, yet still achieved an extraordinary victory against entrenched political powers, attributing this success to divine intervention: “But God showed the whole world that leadership and power belong only to Him.”
Addressing the 2027 Presidential Election, Kwankwaso warned that the President’s push to get governors to defect to APC is unlikely to influence the outcome.
“Tinubu is putting pressure on all governors to defect to APC; But he should be reminded that even if all the 36 state governors defect to APC, the masses are not with him and they will vote him out,” he said,
emphasizing that popular support, not political maneuvering, will decide Nigeria’s next leader.
