The Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo has arraigned four defendants over a series of alleged violent crimes, including multiple counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, arson, and unlawful possession of firearms, following a deadly incident that rocked Ido-Ayegunle community in June 2025.
The defendants, Omolayo Oluwafemi (32), Ogunleye Samuel Olaoluwa (40), Anifowose Muritala (40) and Alegbeleye Sunday (63), were brought before the court on Charge No: MOS/59c/2026, instituted by the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command.
According to the charge sheet dated 23rd January, 2026, the defendants, alongside others currently at large, were alleged to have conspired on June 15, 2025, at about 7:00am in Ido-Ayegunle, within the Esa-Oke Magisterial District, to commit a series of violent acts that led to the gruesome deaths of several persons.
The prosecution alleged that the accused persons conspired to kill Engineer Agboola Oluwafemi Sunday, Kingsley Nwagbana, Rasak Fadilulahi Adegoke, and Olayinka Sodiq, and subsequently carried out the acts using guns, cutlasses, knives, and other dangerous weapons.
The charge further alleged that some of the victims were brutally murdered, with acts including beheading, burning alive, mutilation of bodies, removal of vital organs, and dismemberment. The defendants were also accused of willfully setting fire to the Ido-Ayegunle Community Hall, amounting to arson, and unlawfully possessing a locally made single-barrel gun and a live cartridge.
The offences were said to be contrary to and punishable under various sections of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002, as well as Section 3 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.
During proceedings, the Police Prosecutor, B.C. Adaraloye, Esq., prayed the court to remand the defendants at the Correctional Centre, pending further legal actions, citing the gravity of the offences and the need to ensure justice for the victims.
Meanwhile, the people of Ido-Ayegunle community have expressed appreciation to His Excellency, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State, for deploying adequate security to the area and restoring relative calm after the incident.
However, community members strongly demand justice for the victims of what they described as a gruesome and heartbreaking massacre, calling on the judiciary and relevant authorities to ensure that the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
The case has been adjourned to a later date for further proceedings.
