The Benue state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its planned mega defection ceremony in Otukpo and Agatu local government areas of the state.
The defection ceremony, slated for January 17 and 18, was shifted to a date yet to be announced following recent attacks on Otobi-Akpa in Otukpo LGA and some parts of the Apa-Agatu Federal Constituency. The attacks led to the killing of several persons, including the PDP House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 election, Hon. Ochi Igbabe, by armed herdsmen.
The senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, gave the directive postponing the scheduled mega decamping ceremony of the APC, ADC, LP, and other parties to the PDP in Agatu and Otukpo local government areas.
The postponement is aimed at mourning the souls of innocent constituents who lost their lives in the unfortunate attacks.
According to a statement by the Media Adviser to the senator, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, new dates for Agatu and Otukpo would be announced in due course.
The senator regretted any inconvenience the postponement might have caused those billed to attend the events.
He prayed that God would grant eternal rest to the souls of the deceased and give their family members the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
