Prof. Raifu Oyewole Durodoye, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in the forthcoming 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election, has strongly condemned the series of verbal threats, online harassment, and alleged physical attacks directed at him by supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Prof. Durodoye stated that these attacks followed his recent public comments criticizing what he described as the low performance of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration in Osun State. According to him, shortly after expressing his views, he began to experience coordinated verbal assaults on social media platforms, alongside being trailed by unidentified individuals.
He further disclosed that his residence was attacked on two separate occasions. Fortunately, he was not at home during either incident, a circumstance he believes prevented possible loss of life. The most recent attack reportedly occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026. Prof. Durodoye alleged that the assault was orchestrated by supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke and called on relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter.
Prof. Durodoye emphasized that constructive criticism is a fundamental pillar of democracy and national development. He warned that intolerance of dissenting opinions poses a serious threat to freedom of expression and democratic growth. He urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to embrace democratic values and accept criticism in good faith, noting that leadership demands openness to accountability.
In response to the escalating situation, Prof. Durodoye has formally called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to urgently intervene to ensure his safety and uphold the rule of law.
