Residents of the Ighwre-Ovie area of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, were thrown into grief and disbelief on Tuesday following a tragic domestic incident that reportedly claimed two lives.
A housewife, identified as a native of Isoko and a mother of two, is currently in police custody after she allegedly killed her husband and another woman believed to be involved in an extra-marital relationship with him. A female neighbour who attempted to intervene was also injured and is receiving medical treatment.
According to reports, the incident followed prolonged domestic tension reportedly linked to accusations of infidelity. Neighbours said the situation escalated when the husband returned home, leading to a violent confrontation.
Witnesses disclosed that after the initial incident, the suspect allegedly left the house and went to the residence of the other woman, who lived nearby, where she was also killed.
Another resident reportedly escaped harm after raising an alarm that attracted neighbours and led to the suspect’s arrest.
The community was left in mourning as sympathisers gathered at the homes of the victims, with relatives visibly distressed by the tragic events.
Although the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, was unavailable for immediate comment, a senior police source confirmed that the suspect is in custody and that investigations are ongoing.
The incident has renewed concerns over unresolved domestic disputes and the need for early intervention in family conflicts.
