Former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed the insinuations about defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Naija News recalls that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in January 2025 announced Aregbesola’s expulsion over alleged anti-party activities.
In a video shared on 𝕏 on Monday, February 23, Aregbesola clarified that he did not defect to ADC but deliberately joined it as a platform to lead the country “out of darkness” ahead of the 2027 election.
Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the ADC, who was addressing supporters at a political gathering, explained that his move to join ADC followed a failed effort to reform the APC from within.
The former governor of Osun state stated that the APC leadership expelled him rather than listen to his caution and advice, leaving him and his loyalists with only two choices.
He said, “For context, I did not defect to ADC.
“I joined ADC as a platform to lead Nigerians from the darkness it is now to a new light.
“After a long effort to correct the madness in APC, which the current leadership of the political party refused to do, rather than listen to our word of caution and advice, they expelled me.
“They expelled me without due process. All those who were with me were also expelled.
“Now we have just two options: to abandon politics or to remain in politics and have a new platform to pursue our objective and vision for our people and the nation.”
