Apostle Johnson Suleman has clarified his stance on fasting and intimacy, stating that sexual relations should be avoided during periods of spiritual consecration.
Speaking during a church service, the senior pastor addressed questions surrounding what is permissible while fasting. “It’s wrong. You don’t have sex during fasting. Fasting is denying your body pleasure. Are you listening?” he said.
Suleman explained that fasting, in his view, involves abstaining from physical comforts in order to focus on spiritual matters. “Fasting is denying yourself bodily pleasure,” he stated.
According to him, the discipline requires individuals to temporarily give up anything that gratifies the flesh. “Anything that would pleasure your body, you are denying yourself. Food, sex, comfort, you are denying yourself,” he added.
The cleric noted that normal marital relations can resume once the fast has been concluded. “After you break your fast, you can go do what you want to do,” he said.
He further advised believers to be realistic about their capacity when undertaking spiritual exercises. “So what you do if you are that kind of person that that’s when the pressure comes on you, you make sure you don’t do long fast so that you can come out of that pressure on time because your heart is already divided,” Suleman explained.
He emphasized that divided focus undermines the purpose of fasting. “Once you are fasting, you are thinking of intercourse, your heart is already divided. But you cannot be fasting and be having intercourse,” he declared.
