The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has praised Senator Sandy Onor for standing by him during difficult political moments.
In a video shared by Viable TV, speaking at Onor’s birthday celebration and book launch, Wike highlighted the importance of loyalty in politics and personal relationships. He said he values friends who remain supportive, especially when challenges arise.
According to him, during his presidential ambition under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Onor showed strong support and worked to secure votes for him from Cross River State, even when other political leaders in the state chose a different path.
Wike also took a swipe at some PDP leaders in Cross River who later defected to another party. He said those who left have now run away, adding that he has already dealt with the situation. His comments appeared to suggest disappointment with former allies who switched sides.
The minister stressed that true friendship is not about benefits or convenience but about standing firm in both good and bad times. He explained that some people only stay close when they are gaining something, but real friends remain loyal regardless of circumstances.
Wike also commended former Attorney-General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi, describing him as a loyal friend and a role model for younger generations.
He assured Onor and his family of his continued support, saying loyalty and commitment are qualities he deeply respects and strives to uphold in his own relationships.
In his words, "They have run away now, I've cashed them out. I like people who will always be with you."
