Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Over Alleged Cyberstalking, Assault on Officer in Ado-Ekiti

A 21-year-old man, Oluwagbotemi Olaniyi, has been arrested by the police in Ado-Ekiti following allegations of cyberstalking and assault on a law enforcement officer.

Police sources disclosed that officers had visited the residence of his mother, Mrs. Abimbola Adeniyi, to effect her arrest in connection with petitions filed by the Chief Executive Officer of YSJ Limited, Mrs. Yemisi Joluwe. The petition reportedly alleged defamation and the publication of damaging claims on social media aimed at tarnishing reputations.

Preliminary investigations, according to security sources, traced the origin of the disputed online posts to digital devices linked to the residence. Authorities are examining allegations that the materials were prepared at the residence and published online with the assistance of the suspect.

Tension reportedly arose when officers attempted to gain entry into the premises. After access was allegedly denied, the officers forced entry in the course of carrying out their lawful duty.

During the ensuing confrontation, Olaniyi allegedly assaulted the leading officer with a piece of wood, causing serious injuries. The officer reportedly lost consciousness and was rushed to a hospital in Ado-Ekiti, where he is currently receiving treatment.

The suspect was subsequently apprehended, while electronic devices believed to have been used in the alleged cyber activities were recovered for forensic analysis.

Police authorities have commenced further investigation into the matter. The police have urged members of the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course
