In an interview with the Sun on Sunday, February 22, 2026, the National Coordinator of the Take Back Nigeria Initiative (TBNI), Abumchukwu Okoye, has expressed deep skepticism about the African Democratic Congress's (ADC) ability to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, questioning the viability of its potential candidates.
Reacting to claims that the ADC has pledged to unseat the APC in 2027, Okoye delivered a scathing assessment of the opposition party's leadership roster.
"How will the ADC achieve that goal? Is it with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President who has expired?" Okoye asked, dismissing the perennial presidential candidate's continued relevance.
He then ran through other prominent figures associated with the ADC coalition. "Or is it with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State whom the Senate disqualified from being a minister? Or the former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi?" the TBNI coordinator continued.
Okoye reserved particular criticism for Peter Obi's association with the ADC. "Or the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, Peter Obi, who lost his impact the day he stood in line with El-Rufai in ADC," he stated.
The remarks reflect skepticism within some political circles about whether the ADC can successfully unite various opposition factions into a coherent electoral force, with critics pointing to what they describe as baggage carried by each of the party's prominent figures.
