Muslims have been urged not to view trials and tribulations from Allah as punishments, but as means of drawing closer to Almighty God. The admonition was given by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Ajibola Basiru who delivered the 5th Ramadhan lecture of Al Tasnim in Osogbo.
Dr. Basiru explained that Allah tested the faith of the Prophets and generations before us with different trials to gauge how deeply they were committed to Him in faith.
Quoting copiously from the Quran, the APC Scribe cited the story of Prophet Ayyub who was endowed with wealth but lost everything including his wealth in an unprecedented manner in human history.
"But Prophet Ayyub didn't despair. He faced the tribulations with patience and steadfastness in Allah. At the end of the day, Allah healed him of the sickness and returned all he had lost in wealth and family."
Dr. Ajibola Basiru also cited the example of Prophet Ibraheem who was given a child at an old age. He had a dream that he slaughtered the child. Following the dream, Ibraheem decided to make the dream a reality by slaughtering Ismaheel.
"The patience of the father and son despite confusion from Shaytan the Devil gave birth to the Islamic World we are all proud of today. "
The National Scribe of APC concluded the lecture by stressing that trials and tribulations are meant for humans but Muslims should confront them with prayers, patience, and perseverance.
In her own lecture, Dr. Zaynab Shittu-Adenuga of the Faculty of Law, Fountain University, Osogbo harped on the need for parents to raise their children with the fear of Allaah and instil in them Islamic virtue.
Dr. Adenuga regretted that society already has despondent youths who are bad influences on others. She, however, said Muslim parents have a duty to impart Islamic morals and mores in their children to change society.
Earlier, the Initiator of Al Tasnim, Chief Magistrate Habeebah Oghale Basiru had explained that she decided to be holding the Annual Ramadhan Lecture for spiritual growth and renewal and to reach out to the less privileged.
She used the avenue to appreciate individuals and groups who have continued to identify with Al Tasnim since its birth five years ago.
