Ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Fitri celebrations, community leaders, security agencies, and political stakeholders in Osogbo have agreed on strict measures to ensure peaceful congregational prayers, warning against any form of political activity at Eid grounds.
The resolutions were reached during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the palace of the Ataoja of Osogboland. The meeting brought together religious leaders, traditional rulers, representatives of political parties, and security operatives.
Presiding over the gathering, Oba Jimoh Abidemi Oyetunji Olanipekun welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence in the town.
Speaking on behalf of community leadership, Kunle Adeigbe stressed that Eid grounds are strictly for worship, not political engagement.
“Eid ground is meant for supplications to Allah and not a campaign arena. Troublemakers should stay away. Osogbo does not subscribe to anything that will disturb the peace and tranquility we enjoy,” he said.
Security agencies, including the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Amotekun Corps, announced a coordinated plan to enforce compliance.
They warned that anyone attempting to disrupt the prayers or introduce political elements would face strict consequences. The agencies outlined specific restrictions, including a ban on political campaigns, display of posters, distribution of branded souvenirs, and wearing of clothing with political insignia at all Eid grounds across the city.
Local drummers were also advised to stay away from prayer venues to maintain order and solemnity.
Representatives of political parties—including the Accord Party, ADC, APC, and PDP—commended the initiative and pledged to sensitize their members to comply fully with the resolutions.
In his closing remarks, Sheikh Rabiu Musa Animasahun urged residents and leaders to embrace unity and love, calling for collective responsibility in preserving peace.
He concluded with prayers for the Ataoja, community leaders, and all indigenes of Osogbo, both at home and abroad.
The meeting was widely attended by traditional chiefs, community heads, market leaders, youth and student groups, and various indigenous associations, underscoring a united front to ensure a peaceful Eid celebration in the city.
