The Osogbo branch of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Muslim Graduates’ Association (LAUMGA) today Sunday 15th March, 2026 organized its annual Ramadan lecture themed: “Building a Resilient Community: Expectations from Muslim Graduates in Promoting Social Justice and Peace.” bringing together members, scholars, and community leaders for spiritual reflection, unity, and charitable support during the holy month of Ramadan. The event, which also featured the distribution of food packages to members, served as a platform to reinforce Islamic values, community development, and the importance of continued support for the association.
Speaking during the programme, the Chairman of LAUMGA Osogbo branch, Comrade Owolawi Abduljeleel (OJ SUCCESS), expressed deep appreciation to members and leaders of the association for their consistent support and commitment. He noted that the Ramadan lecture was originally planned to take place earlier in the fasting period but had to be postponed due to financial challenges faced by the association.
Despite the setback, the chairman commended members for their patience and cooperation, assuring them that improvements would be made in the planning of future programmes.
He said the leadership of the association had taken lessons from the experience and promised that necessary adjustments would be implemented ahead of next year’s Ramadan activities to ensure better organization and timely execution.
Representing the National President of LAUMGA, Engr. Muideen Aruna Elewe, Dr. Abdullah Akinniran conveyed the goodwill message of the national leadership to members in Osogbo. He explained that the national president was unable to attend the event due to his involvement in other LAUMGA programmes taking place across the country.
In his message, he urged senior members and elders of the association, including female members, not to distance themselves from the organisation but rather continue to provide guidance, mentorship, and support for its growth.
He further noted that LAUMGA has continued to record significant progress nationwide, which informed the decision of the national body to hold its forthcoming Annual General Meeting in Osogbo.
According to him, the Annual General Meeting is scheduled to take place on June 13, 2026, in Osogbo, and he called on members of the association in the city to prepare adequately and play active roles in ensuring the success of the national gathering.
The highlight of the event was the Ramadan lecture delivered by Prof. Muibi M.A. (HOD, Medical Laboratory Science, Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun) who urged Muslim graduates to strive for economic independence, self-reliance, peace and justice.
He emphasized that educated Muslims must use their knowledge, skills, and professional expertise to promote Islam and contribute meaningfully to societal development wherever they find themselves.
The scholar also stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence, reminding participants that Islam teaches compassion, patience, and wisdom in dealing with others.
To illustrate his message, he narrated an example from the life of Muhammad. According to him, there was an incident during the Prophet’s lifetime when a man began urinating inside a mosque while the Prophet was seated with his companions.
The companions were angered by the act and wanted to confront the man, but the Prophet stopped them from attacking him.
Instead, the Prophet allowed the man to finish before calmly explaining to him that such actions were not permitted in a mosque. The gentle and wise approach, he said, led to the man embracing Islam that same day.
Prof. Muibi therefore urged Muslims, especially graduates, to embody patience and wisdom in their daily interactions.
He also called on government authorities to focus more on meaningful empowerment programmes for citizens. According to him, sustainable development can only be achieved when people are trained with practical skills and supported with opportunities that enable them to earn a living.
He criticized the practice of distributing items such as motorcycles without providing long-term training or economic strategies, urging authorities to invest more in human capacity development.
In his closing remarks, the Chairman of the Ramadan Programme Committee and Vice Chairman of LAUMGA Osogbo, Dr. Saheed, commended members for their impressive turnout and active participation at the event.
He encouraged members not to relent in attending future programmes of the association, stressing that unity and regular engagement are vital for the continued progress of LAUMGA.
He also praised the leaders of the association for their dedication and unwavering support towards strengthening the organisation in Osogbo.
Similarly, the Chairman of the LAUTECH Alumni Association Osun State, Basiru Omidiran, applauded members for their commitment and presence at the programme. He urged them to encourage more graduates of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology to join the association in order to expand its network and influence.
Omidiran also commended the leadership of the Osogbo branch, particularly the chairman, for the progress and development recorded within the association under his administration.
The event concluded with the distribution of food packages to members, reflecting the spirit of charity and compassion that characterizes Ramadan, while participants expressed hope for continued growth and impactful programmes within the association.
