The Executive Director, Marine and Operations of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Engr. Olalekan Abdulrahman Badmus, FNSE, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of respected businessman and community elder, Chief Yussuf Amuda Lawal, popularly known as Ọbẹ̀làwọ̀.
In a heartfelt condolence message, Engr. Badmus described the death of the revered figure as a great loss not only to his immediate family but also to the people of Osogbo and Osun State at large.
“It is with a heavy heart that I received the news of the passing of one of our highly respected fathers in Osun, Chief Yussuf Amuda Lawal, fondly called Ọbẹ̀làwọ̀, who departed this world at the remarkable age of 95,” Badmus said.
The NPA Executive Director noted that the late Obelawo lived a life defined by service, integrity, generosity, and unwavering commitment to community development. According to him, the late patriarch’s legacy of philanthropy and leadership greatly impacted the growth and social fabric of Osogbo and its surrounding communities.
“Chief Ọbẹ̀làwọ̀ was more than a successful businessman; he was a pillar of wisdom, a custodian of community values, and a man whose doors were always open to those in need. His remarkable life of dedication to humanity and his immense contributions to the development of Osogbo will forever remain etched in the hearts and memories of the people,” he added.
Badmus further reflected on the significance of the timing of the elder statesman’s passing during the holy month of Ramadan, describing it as a sacred period characterized by mercy, forgiveness, and spiritual reflection for Muslims around the world.
“As we mourn this painful loss, we are reminded of the transient nature of life and the boundless mercy of Almighty Allah, whose forgiveness encompasses all. It is our sincere prayer that Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgives any shortcomings of the departed, accepts his good deeds, and grants him Aljanah Firdaus,” he said.
Engr. Badmus extended his deepest condolences to the family, friends, associates, and the entire people of Osogbo over the passing of the respected elder, urging them to take solace in the impactful and fulfilled life he lived.
“On behalf of my family and associates, I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the entire Lawal family and the good people of Osogbo. May Allah grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement concluded.
