The election, held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, was organized to elect a successor to the outgoing Chairman, Alhaji Azeez Kamarudeen, whose tenure will conclude in the coming weeks after years of dedicated service to the market community.
Alhaji Rasheed Adebisi, who previously served as the Vice Chairman of the market, emerged victorious after securing 458 votes, defeating his closest contender, Mr. Taofeek Olalekan, who garnered 405 votes. A total of 868 voters were accredited for the election, with 863 valid votes cast and five votes declared void.
The credibility and peaceful nature of the election were widely commended by stakeholders and observers. The Divisional Police Officer of Dugbe Division, CSP Joshua Owolabi, who monitored the exercise, urged both contestants and their supporters to accept the outcome in good faith and continue to maintain peace and unity within the market.
In a significant show of unity prior to the poll, Mr. Azeez Taiwo stepped down from the race in support of Alhaji Adebisi, a move widely acknowledged as contributing to the eventual victory of the new Chairman.

In his remarks, the outgoing Chairman, Alhaji Azeez Kamarudeen, thanked the elders and entire members of the market for their cooperation throughout his tenure. He further commended the transparent conduct of the election and advised government authorities to adopt the Ajegunle Market electoral model as a template for credible grassroots elections.
