A shocking tragedy has been reported in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, where a 15-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly killing his aunt, Alhaja Aishat Gobir Akanbi, the woman said to have raised him since childhood.
According to reports, the teenager confessed that he had been feeling angry and frustrated because his aunt frequently scolded him for returning home late from school and other outings.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the boy had earlier attempted to poison his aunt, but the attempt reportedly failed. Authorities say he later hid behind a door and allegedly attacked the woman while she was bathing, leading to her death.
After the incident, the teenager reportedly changed his clothes and left the house under the pretense of running an errand in what investigators believe was an attempt to avoid suspicion.
Officers of the Kwara State Police Command later arrested the boy during their investigation into the case. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
The incident has left residents of the community in shock, particularly because the victim was widely known to have cared for the boy and treated him like her own child.
Police say investigations are ongoing as authorities continue to gather more details surrounding the circumstances of the tragic event.
